Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 6.0 Marshmallow update

The Samsung Galaxy S5 has been confirmed to receive the Android Marshmallow update, although it is not yet certain when. A GIGA reader offered a tip following an email he received from Samsung, which said that the company is working on Marshmallow for the Galaxy S5.
Two rollout timetables showing Samsung's plans for Marshmallow have leaked in recent months. The latest gives the Galaxy S5 Marshmallow update a Q1 2016 release, so you can expect it to arrive sometime before the end of March.

Samsung monthly Android security updates

In August, Samsung – along with LG and Google – announced monthly security updates for several of its devices, including the Galaxy S5. The good news is that the first fix issued by Samsung will patch the code that is vulnerable to the Stagefright exploit.
The bad news is two-fold. Firstly, anyone who has not updated to Android 5.1 will not benefit from this patch, so if you own a Galaxy S5 that isn't on Android 5.1, you will have to wait even longer for a Stagefright fix. Secondly, hackers are reportedly targeting different parts of the vulnerability in order to get around the patch. To see if your phone is vulnerable to Stagefright, download the Stagefright Detector app from Zymperium, the research lab that uncovered the problem.
Sprint Galaxy S5 update
Sprint pushed a follow-up Lollipop patch for the Galaxy S5 on August 5, bringing it up to software version G900PVPU3BOG1. The only change listed was a patch for the Stagefright exploit.
The Android 5.0 update for Galaxy S5 owners with Sprint (model number SM-G900P) can now be downloaded OTA. To see if the update is waiting for you, just go to Settings > About Phone > Software Update.samsung galaxy s5 ok google

Verizon Galaxy S5 update
Verizon has rolled out another update to the Galaxy S5. Though it still sits on Android 5.0, the update adds a patch for the Stagefright security exploit. The Samsung Galaxy S5 5.0 Lollipop update is now available for those with Verizon devices (model number SM-G900V). The Verizon Galaxy S5 firmware now sits on build number G900VVRU2BOG5.
T-Mobile Galaxy S5 update
T-Mobile recently pushed out the Android 5.1.1 update to Galaxy S5 owners over-the-air. The update brings the Galaxy S5 up to software version G900T3UVS1FOJ4 OR G900TUVS1FOJ4, and includes security updates.
AT&T Galaxy S5 update
AT&T pushed out the Android Lollipop 5.1.1 update on 22 October, bringing the device to build G900AUCU4COI5. Head to Settings > About phone > Software update page to download it now.

Some people have been experiencing problems with Lollipop on their Galaxy S5s and Samsung has advised users to factory reset their devices. Improvements carried in Android 5.1.1 are said to make devices more stable.

Galaxy S5 Android Lollipop update (UK)

The Galaxy S5 Lollipop update has been available in the UK and Europe for a while, but Samsung has just pushed out a new update for its SM-G900F model. This brings the build number up to version G900FXXU1BOJ1 and includes security, battery use, and RAM and memory management improvements. This also means that the Samsung Galaxy S5 in the UK should now be secured against the latest Stagefright threats.

Sony Confirms Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Overheating Issues, Promises Software Fix

Another high-end smartphone featuring Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 is in the news for overheating issues. Sony's recently launched Xperia Z3+ (launched as the Xperia Z4 in Japan) smartphone is reportedly facing overheating issues and the company has acknowledged the issue alongside announcing a possible fix coming this summer.
Sony Netherlands has told GSMInfo that it "recognises the problems." The Japanese company further promised a software fix for the Sony Xperia Z3+. For now, the company recommends users to turn off the smartphone multiple times during a day to avoid issues. Notably, some Sony Xperia Z4 users have also reported similar issues with their handsets.
According to reports, the Xperia Z3+ gets very hot to touch when using camera for long periods or while playing graphics-heavy games. The handset also closes apps that cause overheating after showing a popup message to the user.
Sony is not the first handset maker that has faced issue with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 chipset, as LG previously claimed that it encountered heating issues in the initial sample of the G Flex2 but was able to tackle it. LG clarified that it received updated chipset and also worked with Qualcomm to resolve the issue. A report in January had suggested that Samsung, on the other hand, ditched Snapdragon 810 chipset for its flagship smartphone. Recent reports also found the HTC One M9 to be facing issues with the Snapdragon 810 in terms of overheating, issues that were fixed by subsequent software updates.
The overheating issues in Snapdragon 810 processor was first reported in December when it was claimed that the chipset heats up at certain voltage levels, resulting in under-performance. The company's Adreno 430 GPU was being said to be giving problems due to errors found in the drivers. The RAM controller of the application was also facing issues. Other reports indicated the problem had existed, but had been fixed.
To recall, Sony late last month launched the Xperia Z3+ alongside its dual SIM variant (Sony Xperia Z3+ Dual) and announced that both the smartphone would be launching globally in June. We can expect the company to delay the launch of the Xperia Z3+ in several markets considering now that Sony has acknowledged the overheating issues on the handset. An Italian website had claimed that Sony's Xperia Z3+ flagship might be priced at EUR 699 (approximately Rs. 48,750).

news on the Windows 10 Mobile Update for Windows Phone

Windows 10 Mobile Update for Windows Phone Models Delayed Till Early 2016
Windows Phone 8.1 handsets such as the Lumia 930 and Lumia 520 won't be getting their Windows 10 Mobile upgrade this year, as previously assured by Microsoft. Offering no explanation, the company has said that the much-awaited software update will rollout early 2016.
In October, Microsoft announced that it will be upgrading a large pool of Windows Phone 8.1 (or Windows Phone 8) smartphones in December. The company told ZDNet in a statement that the previous plan is no longer the case.
"This November we introduced Windows 10 to phones including brand new features such as Continuum and Universal Windows Apps with the introduction of the Lumia 950 and 950 XL. The Windows 10 Mobile upgrade will begin rolling out early next year to select existing Windows 8 and 8.1 phones."
Microsoft may have delayed the rollout to ensure Windows 10 Mobile is fully ready for mass usage. Currently, only the recently launched Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL, and Lumia 550 smartphones ship with Windows 10 Mobile builds. Last month, Microsoft released an RTM version of Windows 10 Mobile.
The company hasn't yet specified which existing Windows Phone 8/8.1 handsets will be receiving the update. Earlier this year, the company updated a support page to note that Windows 10 Mobile software upgrade will require at least 1GB of RAM and 8GB of inbuilt storage, suggesting that the Lumia 530, Karbonn Titanium Wind W4, Celkon Win 400 and some other handsets that have 4GB of inbuilt storage aren't eligible for new software release.
Windows 10 Mobile is the smartphone version of company's new Windows 10 operating system. It offers a range of features including Continuum and Universal Windows Apps, and some enhancements to Message and Photos apps.
Earlier this month, the company made available support information for Windows 10 Mobile. The company noted that it would provide support for handsets running Windows 10 Mobile Consumer and Windows 10 Mobile for Business till January 9, 2018.
